The Black & Decker NPP2018 is a high quality pole chain saw – effective, quiet, lightweight and very easy to operate and control. Its only drawback is the battery limitation – on the other hand you don`t have to deal with a cord or gas. It is covered by a 2-year warranty.

Battery
The Black and Decker NPP2018 is a cordless pole pruning saw, powered by a 18 volt NiCd battery. It provides a solid runtime which of course depends on the size and hardness of the branches. The manufacturer claims it provides enough runtime to cut one hundred 1.5" branches – pretty nice.
The charger is part of the package and after the initial 9 hours charge it takes about 3 to 6 hours to recharge the battery (depending on how depleted it is). That`s not perfect of course so we would recommend you to purchase a spare battery if you want to use this tool more often.
However if you own some other Black & Decker 18 Volt tools, you can combine these batteries (if you already have the charger and batteries, you can get the bare tool here).
Power
Despite the fact this pole saw is battery powered, it offers a surprisingly good power. The 8-inch cutting bar is able to cut branches up to 6" in diameter, and with some effort even stuff that is 8" thick. It`s also very effective for trimming dead palm fonds for example.
It is quiet and runs very smoothly.
Working with NPP2018
A big advantage of this B&D pole pruner is its weight – only 7.6 pounds which means it`s also very easy to operate and control, even when used in full extension. Only the balance is slightly worse as the most weight lies on the end of the pole (however all pole saws share this problem, only gas powered ones are slightly better).
You are able to reach up to about 14 feet with it. A 3-section design is used, the tool can be easily taken apart (no tools needed) and carried in a bag (which is included in the package). It features a good build quality and durability as well – it will last many years.
Note: During the first hours of use, the chain needs to be re-tightened frequently which is very easy to do, a small wrench is included. Also do not forget to oil the chain!

Conclusion: Black & Decker NPP2018 is a high quality tool that will save you a lot of time with pruning. Effective, lightweight and easy to operate. We can recommend it. However there is also a newer version of this tool which features a slightly better battery lifetime – so if you don`t mind spending about $10 more, check it out here. |
