The Poulan Pro PP338PT is a powerful gas pole chain saw – effective, easy to manipulate and also offers using an included grass trimmer or other Poulan attachments. On the other hand sometimes it is a little finicky when starting.

Power
The Poulan Pro PP338PT is a 33cc 2-stroke gas powered pole pruning saw. It is not CARB compliant (so not for sale in California), however doesn`t produce any smelly fumes that can disturb your work.
It features an 8-inch bar and plenty of power so the cutting is really fast and easy, it handles 5" or 6" effectively and is able to deal even with larger stuff. The reach is also solid thanks to the extension pole (see the pictures).
Working with PP338PT
A nice fact is that this model requires very little assembly. As all gas machines it`s slightly heavier but the balance is on a very solid level so it`s still very easy to operate. That`s a good advantage over electric pole saws which are known to be head-heavy. The shoulder strap will help you as well.
On the other hand, starting this Poulan saw is a little quirky sometimes, mainly on the first use (there it also occasionally stalls from idle). Not a serious problem but something definitely worth noting.
Attachments
Poulan incorporated an interesting advantage into this machine – the chain saw head can be taken away and replaced by a string trimmer (which is included) or another attachment (there are many available, for example an edger, hedge trimmer, cultivator etc.). And the changing is easy and doesn`t take long..
The trimmer itself is not the top one on the market, but still it`s a nice bonus – and if you don`t want to invest into a standalone weed eater, even better.

Conclusion: Despite its occasional problems with starting, Poulan Pro PP338PT is a powerful and easy to operate machine. If you are looking for a good gas pole chain saw for a solid price, it is the one. Plus you get a trimmer and a possibility to use other Poulan attachments. |
